Why Rest is Resistance: Finding God in Stillness
There’s a rhythm the world runs on—faster, louder, always more. And then there’s the rhythm of Jesus. Stillness. Silence. Sacred pauses. I didn’t always know how to rest. I confused it with laziness, or worse—failure. I carried guilt when I wasn’t being productive. Maybe you do too? But over time, God began inviting me to unlearn hustle and embrace holy rhythms. I began to see that rest isn’t weakness. It’s resistance.

Rest as Resistance
The world will always push us to do more. To prove, perform, and produce. But the invitation of Jesus is different:
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
Choosing rest is a radical act of faith. It declares: God is in control. I don’t have to hold everything together. I am not my productivity.
To pause, to breathe, to sabbath—it’s not just self-care. It’s spiritual warfare.
Stillness Isn’t Emptiness
Rest isn’t the absence of activity. It’s the presence of God.
For me, one of the most sacred ways I’ve learned to rest is through Lectio Divina—a simple, contemplative way to engage scripture with my heart, not just my head.
It’s not about “studying” the Bible. It’s about listening. Being present. Sitting still long enough to hear what God might want to say.
A Sacred Invitation
If you feel stretched thin, hurried, or disconnected from God—you’re not alone.
But you don’t have to stay in survival mode. You’re invited into a slower, deeper rhythm. One rooted in trust, not toil. In peace, not pressure.

Closing Reflection
What would it look like to rest not just occasionally, but on purpose?
To protect time with God like a sacred appointment?
You don’t need to earn your rest. It’s already been gifted to you. All you have to do… is receive it.
